Denise Lee - Professional Bio

 

For more than a decade Denise has been a filmmaker, working in production and post in a multitude of positions.  

Denise volunteered last year as Post Supervisor and Motion Graphics Artist, for ‘Reel Women Seen’ an ACTRA, DGC, IATSC co-production about statistics regarding women in the film industry. She was rewarded in June 2018 when ‘Reel Women Seen’ won the 2018 Jury Choice Award at the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase. Denise is also proud of her work on ‘Real Vikings’ which has won two Canadian Screen Awards, she is also honoured to have worked on  ‘Canada: The Story of Us’; a historical docu-drama series for the CBC.

Denise joined the Directors Guild of Canada in 2016, in order to pursue her 10 year goal of becoming a Director.

Denise recently completed working in Montreal, at ON Animation Studios, as an Assistant Picture Editor for ‘Playmobil’ an animated feature film. Denise was able to study the beautiful French language as well as the art of animation and study behind the scenes, with former Disney, Head of Animation (Frozen), Lino Di Salvo, who is directing ‘Playmobil’ and she worked directly with former Dreamworks, (How To Train your Dragon), Supervising Picture Editor, Maurissa Horwitz. Denise enjoyed having an inside look at the mechanics and production of an animated feature film. She was also able to apply her extensive knowledge of Live Action Scripted productions to assist with the post management of the production.

Denise started her career after completing the Digital Editing Program at the Toronto Film School. She started her company Red Tie Video, and began producing live event short films. She partnered with Hutch Photography in 2009 and worked as a Photographer, Videographer and Production Manager for live events. She’s produced two scripted short films and is writing her third short film set to shoot as early as June of 2018.

Three years ago she incorporated her company Burlington Films and began producing advertisements with 360 Energy. Denise also loves to teach, she is a former Centauri Arts Camp, Film Program Director. She’s written post production workflows for nationally broadcasted television series such as ‘Cold Water Cowboys’ (Discovery Channel), ‘Power and Ice’ (History Channel) and ‘Real Vikings’ (History Channel).

Denise is an active volunteer with the PNUC Refugee Sponsorship group, which has helped several families come to Canada since the early 70’s. Denise is married to Alex Hutchinson who is a drone pilot and camera operator for Drone Trilogy. They have a two year old boy named Leo and a Cavalier Spaniel miniature Poodle named Zoey.

Has over a decade of experience working within the Film and Television industry as Picture Editor, Post Production Supervisor and Avid Certified Support Representative. I am also a certified fibre optic technician and a member of the Directors Guild of Canada and the Canadian Cinema Editors.

Denise is currently working on the Feature Film for "Playmobil" which is set to release internationally to a world wide audience, as an assistant picture editor in the Editorial Department.

  • Expert skills with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects and PhotoShop as well as DaVinci Resolve, Microsoft Office, Sorenson Squeeze, CatDV, Avid ISIS, Avid Unity, Avid Symphony, Disk Catalog, LTO 5, LTO 6, PC, Mac, Graphics Cards, Avid Interplay, Fiber Optic Testing Software, Avid Newscutter and Avid Pro Tools.
